Chelsea ‘set to sign’ David Datro Fofana from Erling Haaland’s old club Molde after striking £10.6million deal for 20-year-old striker

Chelsea are set to complete the signing of 20-year-old Ivory Coast striker David Datro Fofana once the January transfer window opens.

The Molde starlet has struck a deal over a move to west London that will see him complete a £10.6million move.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the player is undergoing a medical in London ahead of the deal being concluded.

Chelsea have been looking for a forward to bolster their attacking efforts going into the second half of the season, with Graham Potter’s side sitting eighth in the Premier League table ahead of action resuming after Christmas.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be the only fit centre-forward in the senior squad for Chelsea’s clash against Bournemouth on December 27.

A significant injury blow to Armando Broja has increased the urgency of the search for a new striker, with the 21-year-old frontman facing a spell on the sidelines after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

In Fofana, they have found a up-and-coming goalscorer who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Molde’s other successful export, Erling Haaland.

The 20-year-old is an Ivory Coast international and has bagged four goals in ten appearances for the Norwegian side this term, with 24 goals and ten assists in 65 appearances in total.

In comparison, Haaland had managed 20 goals and six assists in 50 games for Molde by the time he left the Norwegian club at the age of 18, signing for Red Bull Salzburg for the modest fee of £7m in January 2019.

Chelsea will be hoping Fofana can provide competition for places at Stamford Bridge ahead of what will be a big few months for the club, as they look to get a disjointed start to the season back on track.
