Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea has described his team’s crashing out of the 2021-2022 Champions League season as a very sad and difficult situation.
LaLiga title holders, Atletico Madrid defeated Ralf Rangnick’s United, kicking them out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The defeat also means that every hope of the Red Devils winning a silverware this season has ended.
Meanwhile, Manchester United hero, Cristiano Ronaldo was kept quiet by Atletico Madrid’s backline all through the game, with the Portuguese not firing a shot.
This was just the third time in Ronaldo’s career he’s played 90+ minutes in a Champions League match and failed to record a single shot.
The other two were Manchester United’s meeting with Panathinaikos in November 2003 and Real Madrid’s clash with Barcelona in May 2011.
“Of course it’s not good enough,” De Gea told BT Sport.
“It’s hard for the club, for us and the fans. It’s really hard. This is where we are at the moment.
“It’s a difficult situation. We have to keep fighting. I feel very sad. But we were not good enough.”
